Reassessing Your Goals for the New Year

The beginning of a new year is a great time to reflect on the past and plan for the future. In other words, it’s time to set goals!

Whether you want to set new goals for your family, finances or physical health, setting goals can help you stay motivated and focused on achieving success. Not to mention, having smart goals will help you succeed in your career and life.

Here are a few tips about setting goals for the new year:

  • Review Last Year’s Progress: Did you set any goals last year? If you did, spend some time reflecting on what you accomplished and what you didn’t end up doing. Don’t beat yourself up if you didn’t reach all your goals — it will just give you more insight into how to be more successful in the future.
  • Determine New Goals: Now that you have reflected on last year’s successes and setbacks, it’s time to think about the future. What do you want to accomplish this year? Think big but also be realistic. Your goals don’t have to be huge milestones. They just have to be important to you.
  • Create a Plan: After deciding on some achievable yet meaningful goals, create an action plan for how to reach them. Outline specific steps for how each goal will be achieved and set deadlines for when those steps need to be completed by. Consider writing this down in a notebook or on your phone.
  • Get Excited!: You have a new year with new challenges and new opportunities in front of you. Having goals that you are working towards will help you make this year count and give you things to feel really proud of in the process. Visualize yourself succeeding and remind yourself why your goals are important and how they will benefit your life once they are achieved.
