The Ōnin Group has once again been recognized as one of the Birmingham Business Journal’s Best Places to Work for 2025, honoring its Birmingham-based Home Office and surrounding branches in Bessemer, Centerpoint and McCalla. This year, Ōnin ranked third in the large company category, in recognition of its people-first culture

This marks Ōnin’s return to the list after winning four consecutive years from 2020 to 2023. The award is based solely on employee feedback, measuring engagement, trust, leadership, and work environment.

At Ōnin, culture is treated as a competitive advantage, not just an HR initiative. It’s built intentionally, sustained by high standards, and reinforced by the belief that great outcomes start with great people. That focus has driven growth, innovation, and a shared sense of ownership across teams.

“Our culture is rooted in accountability and belief in each other,” said Jim Weaver, CEO of The Ōnin Group. “We’ve created an environment where people own their work, and the results speak for themselves.”

That ownership is literal. As an ESOP (employee stock ownership plan) company, every eligible internal employee is also an owner at Ōnin. That structure reinforces a culture of shared success and raises the bar for the service clients receive.

When every team member thinks like an owner, that mindset shows up in the details: in how clients are supported, how issues are solved, and how teams are built inside client operations. In staffing, those details matter.

“Our clients don’t just get a staffing “vendor” — they get a team of people who are personally invested in doing things right,” said Rosalyn Lawson, Vice President of People & Culture. “That starts with our internal culture, and it scales to the partnerships we build on job sites every day.”

Ōnin was also named a 2025 Best Staffing Firm to Work For by Staffing Industry Analysts for the fifth year in a row.

Ōnin’s recognition as a top workplace, both locally and nationally, is just one more reflection of its mission in action: Creating opportunity and empowering people.
